Cardi Health Reports That Almost 90% of Its Users With Hypertension Experience Stress and Anxiety
A large-scale survey by Cardi Health, a digital cardiovascular health solution for managing and preventing heart diseases, has shown that almost 90% of respondents with hypertension and/or high “bad” cholesterol levels experience stress and anxiety. Almost 37% of them report being under pressure very often.
In a survey of 79,121 people, researchers asked those with high blood pressure and/or high levels of “bad” cholesterol how often they felt stressed and anxious. 53.05% said they were stressed occasionally, 36.58% very often, and 10.37% thought it didn’t affect them or that they were used to it.
“Clinical trials demonstrate that high blood pressure is a highly complex disease. Because of its effect on the blood vessels of the brain, people suffer from shorter attention spans, difficulty focusing at work, deteriorated memory, raised stress levels in everyday activities, and exacerbated neurological disorders,” said Robertas Pranevicius, MD, Medical Advisor for Cardiovascular Disease Management at Cardi Health.
Everyone feels stress and anxiety from time to time, whether it is from work, family problems, financial worries, or a major life change. Anxiety causes your body to release the stress hormone cortisol, which can cause your heart rate to increase and your blood vessels to constrict.
Chronic stress keeps your stress hormones at high levels and puts a dangerous strain on your heart and other parts of your body. High cortisol levels from long-term stress can increase high blood cholesterol and other risks for heart disease. Over time, excess “bad” cholesterol can build up in your arteries and clog them.
“Stress is linked with chronic inflammation in your body, negatively affecting blood pressure and cholesterol levels. However, stress can also affect heart health more indirectly. When people stress, they tend to sleep poorly, exercise less, and make poor food choices. All this combination puts heart health at risk,” said Pranevicius.
The Cardi Health ecosystem revolves around monitoring blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol levels, weight, and other vital parameters. The Cardi Health app also synchronizes the user’s data with leading health apps, e.g., Apple Health, Google Fit, FitBit.
Cardi Health’s products have been designed to provide all the tools necessary to change unhealthy lifestyles and promote heart health.
