A groundbreaking study by Cardi Health, a startup focused on managing cardiovascular health, has shown that almost 90% of people with hypertension and/or high “bad” cholesterol levels experience stress and anxiety. Almost 37% of them report being under pressure very often.
In a survey conducted with 79,121 respondents, the researchers asked people with high blood pressure and/or high levels of “bad” cholesterol about how often they feel stressed and anxious. 53.05% said they are stressed occasionally, 36.58% – very often, and 10.37% thought it doesn’t affect them or that they are used to it.
“Clinical trials demonstrate that high blood pressure is a highly complex disease. Because of its effect on the blood vessels of the brain, people suffer from shorter attention spans, difficulty focusing at work, deteriorated memory, raised stress levels in everyday activities, and exacerbated neurological disorders.“ – said Robertas Pranevicius, MD, Interventional Cardiologist at Cardi Health.
Everyone feels stress and anxiety from time to time, whether from work, family problems, financial trouble, or facing a big life change. Anxiety causes the release of the stress hormone cortisol in the body, which can trigger an increase in the heart rate and a narrowing of the blood vessels.
Chronic stress makes your stress hormones remain at high levels and puts a dangerous strain on your heart and other parts of your body. High cortisol levels from long-term stress can increase high blood cholesterol and other heart disease risks. Over time, excess “bad” cholesterol can build up in your arteries, causing them to get clogged.
“Physical activity declines as the heart disease progresses, resulting in reduced productivity and greater concern about one’s quality of life, health, and future goals. All of these symptoms are caused by constant tension, which results in the development of arterial hypertension and the need for complex treatment, including both medication and psychological assistance.” – said Robertas Pranevicius.
Cardi Health ecosystem revolves around a mobile app, smart blood pressure monitor, and smart pill bottle to match individual customer needs. The app helps monitor blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol levels, weight, and other vital parameters. The app also synchronizes the user’s data with leading health apps, e.g., Apple Health, Google Fit, FitBit.
Cardi Health‘s upcoming cardiovascular disease management set has been designed to provide all the tools necessary to change the unhealthy lifestyle and promote heart health.
